ANSYS Element Types

Link Element:
Element type: Link - 2D Spar 1 (LINK1)




This element can bear only axial loads and can not bear bending moment or shear stress.

2D truss:
Element type: Link - 2D Spar 1 (LINK1)
UY = 0

Example 2:
Each element can only bear two compression or tensile axial force.


3D truss:
Element type: Link - Spar 8 (LINK8)
It has 3 translational degrees of freedom along x, y, and z

Cantilever Beam Analysis:




Element type: Beam - 2D elastic 3 (BEAM3)
This element has 2 translational degrees of freedom and 1 rotational degree of freedom around Z axis.

Plane Stree:
Element type: Solid - 8 node 82 (PLANE82). This element has 4 sides and its degrees of freedom are in direction of X and Y. This element consists of 8 nodes. Due to extra nodes in this element, in complex geometry models this element (PLANE82) is advised to be used.
UX = 0

Quad 4node 42 (Solid) can also be used in Plane stress and Plane strain. Each node has two degrees of freedom in X and Y direction.

Revolution of an area around an axis. Element type: Solid - Quad 4node 42 (PLANE42). Click on options and in Element behavior (K3) select Axisymmetric.
